Six days before Christmas and I find out someone has cloned my debit card and spent nearly £2000 on internet gambling.
What a great day I've had.

What a douche bag! Pretty scary that they were able to clone your debit card. I've heard of credit cards being ripped off, but not debit cards. Hope you get it all sorted out!

My card has been stopped and it's going through to the fraud investigation department where i'll find out what's going to happen.
As regards the cloning, they get various bits of information then copy it (using various devices) to any card that has a magnetic strip. I always thought I was pretty vigilant with my card but obviously it wasn't enough.

Crappy man. But yeah, even the most vigilant are vulnerable nowadays. Hackers (if they don't use it themselves) sell your info that was hacked from some retailer's network. You might check your credit report too (assuming ya'll have credit reports?) to see if anything else is suspect.

I was caught out like this. It had nothing to do with the way I used the CC, the buggers just generated random numbers until one worked.
I got all the gambling charges back however it meant new cards and plenty of forms to fill in = loads of inconvenience and hassle after doing nothing wrong !
poopyheads !!

The only thing I have is my debit card, I don't have a credit card or anything so it should just be isolated to this.
I do a lot of internet transactions but I also pay in store using it too, so it could be either way. They can rig things up to cash points to take your data, there's a lot of ways apparantly.
Simon, I know, I didn't get off the phone till 8pm last night, this morning I was up and to the bank to get my account frozen (the bugger took me past my overdraft limit), and now I have to wait for some forms from the Fraud office to fill in, then 7-10 working days after that i'll get my money back, apparantly!
Oh, and now I have to borrow money of my mum over christmas!
I can't believe it all went on gambling too, it would have been just as bad, but, they could have at least spent it on christmas presents or something.
Actually I lie, they spent £4.60 on going to the cinema.

Scary stuff.
It also sickens me that people sell other poeple's information like stock around the internet. Like you said... No conscience.

Yeah... its pretty scary alright.
There were a few guys caught here scanning peoples information off of their debit cards.. they had build a scanner and attached it to a local ATM - it just stuck on over the existing slot where you put your card into, quite well done actually - you would have to be a very observant person to notice the difference. So the banks created a anti-fraud type card slots on their ATMs to stop it. But hundreds of people had their information stolen before they were caught.
No matter how advanced the technology gets - you will still always have criminals thinking of was to steal.

I don't know how it works in England, but I assume it's just like o'er here stateside and a friend of mine just had her debit card compromised and it took literally 3 weeks before she was able to take any money out of her account. What a pain in the "arse" (for you Brits). That sucks man, hopefully it get resolved quickly.

I'm pretty sure it was due to a device (like Tonja said) being stuck into an ATM that I used at Tesco. I popped in there today to make them aware of what happened. No idea what movie it was. Maybe the fraud department will find out. Yeah, my account is frozen now so I have no access to money from it (not like I have money to access in the first place, being as the bastard left me £1800 overdrawn). Apparantly there's been some Asian gangs going around doing a lot of this stuff recently.

You really do have to wonder about the mentality of some people on this planet, it really is disgusting at times. Why can't people go out and earn a living instead of stealing from others?

Good news. That was quick. Here in the states it would take a long, long time.
