This arrived today It's a 1996 Fender 50th anniversary Squier Strat. Bought it from a dealer on the evilbay for £110, it's nicely aged but in good condition overall, frets have been polished and the trem had been set-up to float, action had been lowered and a new set of 10's fitted; Thats what he said. This is what i say; overall it is in good condition, but, i've re-set the trem because the guitar just wouldn't stay in tune and i never use a trem anyway, if the strings were new, then between despatch and delivery John Frusciante has played 3 gigs on this guitar! he also needs to fire his tech, because they were also very poorly wound onto the string posts! no biggie, fitted a new set. The action needed raising just a tad as the G# (top E, 16th fret) was choking and the B (5th string, 14th fret) was buzzing a little, i suspect that although the frets have been polished they haven't been levelled. Neck relief is spot on, and so to (surprisingly) is the intonation. I've checked the electrics and they're all good, no scratchy pots or switches, pick-ups are fantastic just needed a small height adjustment to suit my taste, and absolutely NO hum! despite having no shielding in the pick-up cavity or star grounding of the electrics. So overall, after giving the guitar a thorough set-up, i'm really pleased with it, stays in tune now and plays wonderfully.

Good stuff bud! I love how Strats sound, but the control layout just isn't set up to be comfortable for me. Maybe one of these days I'll find a Strat type guitar that will fit my hands. I also can't wait until I can get back into buying/trading/selling gear again.... the day will come... oh yes, it will come...

There's nothing better than getting a new piece of gear. Like Eric, I love the Strat's sound, though I also have my generic dislikes about them, mostly how they feel I suppose. Happy day.

Thanks Eric, i know what you mean about the control layout, i found it a little tricky when i first started playing so i can understand why some folk are a little uncomfortable with it, also i can't wait till your back in the saddle with buying/trading/selling gear again....just cause it'll give me an excuse to buy more gear There's nothing better than getting a new piece of gear. Different strokes for different folks, but like you say Matt always good to get new gear Incidentally, i'm not really sure why i actually bought this guitar i didn't need another one, and i never GAS for guitars, only amps, and occasionally pedals, i wasn't even looking for a guitar i just sort of stumbled upon it, but when i saw it i just had to have it glad i did though, She's a good'n

She's a beaut man. I bet she sounds as sweet as she looks!

I could only ever imagine you doing the buying part. And Tonja doing the selling part when you have no food on the table and a house full of gear. ;D Looks very nice stratman! I like that typical strat sound, but I too get caught out by the control layout.

I have a strat style guitar and used to have a Squire Strat.
I always had problems with the location of the volume knob, just too close to the stings....my solution, since I never turned the tone knobs, was to removed the middle tone knob and relocate the volume knob to that spot.

Yeah that's quite a common mod for folk who find the control layout obstructive.

Yeah, that's nice dude! I like its look. If you ever decide to use you're tremolo, you might try replacing the nut and bridge saddles with Graphtec replacements, available at stewmac.com and/or most guitar stores. They're relatively cheap, and a quick and easy (diy) job that will immediately improve tremolo usage tuning stability. Oh yeah, and Fender (along with other companies) make roller saddles and nuts for the same purpose. Those might cost more, but might go more with your color scheme, if that's important.

I believe you're going to need to make the link shorter with tinyurl or something. This forum setup doesn't allow real long links for some reason.
