Got this today Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster Custom II P90 Yep, i sold my trusty old LP400 (i'm just not diggin humbuckers anymore) and shot for a P90 loaded axe, i wanted a PRS SE one soapbar; but the neck was a little wide for my freakishly short digits and they have a fixed bridge with no facility for intonation adjustment! so that killed that, sure play nice tho! so i bought this instead, apart from having to tune it up and tighten the pick-up selecter switch, it was pretty straight up; right out of the box, intonation is spot on, general build quality is pretty good, there is a crack in the finish (not the wood) which seems to be common on this particular model for some reason but i negotiated a small discount on the price for that It plays very well, no fret buzz or dead spots and i'm really lovin the sound from those P90's

Sweet axe! I love Teles!
btw, you can adjust the intonation on the PRS fixed bridge. It's done by two screws behind the bolts that hold it onto the body. Use them to set the intonation on the high and low E's and the rest of the strings are intonated as well.

How do you like the P-90's? I've never played a guitar with them, but have always enjoyed the sound clips I've heard of them. Could you describe how they sound in comparison to single coils and humbuckers? What styles do you think they are best suited for?

I'm lovin the P90's Eric, they're really good, i would class them right between a single coil and a humbucker, to my ears they're a fatter/thicker/warmer sounding single coil, you really get the versatility of a single coil with the punch of a humbucker, but without the muddiness that some humbuckers can suffer from, that said, you do lose just a little of the single coil twang. In terms of music styles that they're suitable for, pretty much anything goes! country, blues, rock, hard rock (yep, even G'n R ) psychedelic rock - Robby Krieger of the Doors used a P90 loaded SG, as did Tony Iommi on the first 6 Black Sabbath albums; so you could probably even play some vintage metal with them, i definately don't think they would do modern metal though!
