Are i feel, an oft overlooked part of the guitarists rig, after all, whats the point of putting great guitars/ pick-ups/ effects in the signal chain if the speaker can't reproduce it? this has been brought home to me recently at jammin sessions where crankin the amp resulted in god aweful mushy distortion due to the speaker struggling to keep up with the party. Anyway, long story short, my Vox Pathfinder now finds a Celestion Super 8 residing in its cabinet and has masses more headroom than the stock speaker, and my VR30 now houses a Celestion G10 Vintage 60W which allows the amps natural overdrive and distortion to come thru right upto its full volume All is now well in the world

Speakers are a huge part of the tone equation. So far, my favorite speaker is the Eminence Wizard. The Celestion Vintage 30 is also a very nice sounding speaker.

I like Greenbacks and vintage 30's.....although my cab right now has 4 greenbacks, I'm going to swap out 2 of them for vintage 30's and install them in an X pattern. In other words, a greenback at the top left and a greenback at the bottom right...Only problem with this setup is that to maximize the tone, 2 mics have to be used live, one mic for each type of speaker..
Greenbacks have the wonderful mids... Vintage 30's have the wonderful lows...

Another classic speaker combination is the Vintage 30 and G12H30 (I think it's the Heritage or something similar) The V30 for the very strong upper mids and the H30 for the low and high end. I could only imagine how much a Greenback and V30 combo would cut through the mix, with both of them being midrange monsters and all *evil grin*
I'd love to try a Greenback loaded 2x12 cabinet in combination with my 5150 combo... I hear it really likes those speakers.
I would advise against the Celestion G12T-75's though. The mids are a bit too scooped, and the highs get too fizzy. They would be ok if you were looking for a modern scooped metal tone, but if GOOD tone is what you're looking for, I'd suggest looking elsewhere.

I don't want the speaker to 'interpret' what comes out of the amp. I use Weber ceramic California speakers because they're efficient and transparent. My amps offer a very wide range of tones, and I need speakers that faithfully deliver all of 'em.
