Practically all of them. Jazz uses a huge array of harmonies that are'nt really used in pop tunes. Make sure to get yourself familiar with thier formulas, meaning thier whole step/half step formulas, and their corralation to the major (ionion) scale, as I've found it to a good reference point.
Here are a list of those important scales...
Modes-
Ionion Dorian Phrygian Lydian MixoLydian (a workhorse mode of jazz) Aeolian Locrian
Others- Maj Pent. Min. Pent Whole Tone Harmonic Minor Melodic Minor Blues (of course) Mixoblues (not really important, but then again the more you know, the further you go.
Aaaand I can't really remember many others at the moment, though there are tons more, but you probably knew that.
Also, I've found something that really helps understanding harmony. Polish up on your chord theory also, and put the various chord formulas against the scales, to see the corralolation (what ever) between them. Like, you may find yourself improiving over a C# augmented triad with the C# whole tone scale, becuase of the raised 5th (the dominant).
The possibilites are endless, as you'll soon see.
Here are a few guys you can listen to that I've found to be good players...
Django Reinhardt Charlie Hunter; His stuff is pretty out there, but he can really open you up to new ideas. Charlie Christain (of course) Pat Matheany Joe Pass Wes Montegomery...
Happy hunting.

It seems that a central point of jazz soloing is that you treat each chord as its own sort of key, rather than considering the whole progression in its key.
This means you end up going through various different keys and sounds over a simple 4 chords jazz progression.
If that makes sense?

If that makes sense? i get what u mean.. i thought that was probably the only way...but i was hoping of an easier way....but now that i know theres probably no other easier way... i must agreewith the fact that jazz is quite the pain in the arse (expression non comparable to one such as yours in PRS' signature thought)

Ah... and Chromatic alteration is a big, big part of it, too.
