www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=332292So it's two easy classical studies I threw down yesterday and today: the top two I know as just Moderato and Study. I recently played the Study around the campfire while camping with friends (at the end of a hard night partying) and between the flames, rolling melody, and mind state they were hypnotized. I like Moderato alot now, as I just learned most of it this week. They're both pretty easy, but still fun to play with a soft touch.

Both pieces sound really great! I wish I could play in that style.

Both pieces are very nice. You played them well too. The beauty with the classical stuff is it sounds so full with the melody and bass line being played at the same time.

Both pieces sound really great! I wish I could play in that style. Well that study is especially really easy...only thumb, index, and middle fingers on the right hand, and all open position chords for the left hand throughout. It was one of the first I learned of that style since getting into it about 2 years ago. I never finger-picked with anything but my thumb and index before that. Yet on this one it just came naturally. The index and middle never come off the 2 high treble strings, while the thumb takes care of the rest. Thank you both.

Rustee, if I may ask, how long are your nails? You have a very clear tone, almost like you're using a thumb pick. Sounds good.

I've always played finger picking with just fingertips. Although for the first time I just tried growing my nails for a good while up until about 2 weeks ago. Nice to play with but eventually I couldn't stand living with them and cut em. So they're really pretty short by any standard...just a sliver of white around the edge, yet still well below the radius of the fingertip. Sometimes I catch a lil nail with purpose (and on accident), but most of the contact is flesh. This is especially true of the thumb, being that usually it's the side of the thumb making contact.

Terrific! Enjoyed them both. I would love to learn 'Study', do you know any place I could find the tab for that?

Terrific! Enjoyed them both. I would love to learn 'Study', do you know any place I could find the tab for that? tab linkI learned it from a book. I've since seen it online a few times, but for some reason the ending always varies, and I've yet to see the exact ending I learned. But otherwise the one above is just like I play it. Here's the last 3 measures, with the last 2 being the difference in how it's ended in my recording. E--------0----------0-----| B-----1----1----1-----1--| G--------------------------| D--------------------------| A--0----------3-----------| E--------------------------| E--------1---------1-------| B-----0----0----0----0----| G-------------2-------------| D--0------------------------| A----------------------------| E----------------------------| E--------0------------------| B-----0----0---------------| G--1------------------------| D--------------2------------| A----------------------------| E----------------------------| And actually my book says that last note there is the open bass E, but I kinda prefer it on the 2nd fret there, so that's how I do it. Play whichever you like best, or do both upon repeating the passage. Your choice. Oh yeah, and like I mentioned above, for your right hand use index and middle fingers only on the B and E strings respectively, and the thumb takes care of the other 4. So it goes: t-i-m-i-t-i-m....

Very nice dood. Very clean playing on these two tracks. HOw much of your practise time is spend on classical? Sorry...hadn't been back to this part of the forum in awhile. But to answer, that depends. I'll kinda go through phases/moods, where I'll play 100% classical and not even touch the electric (or play other styles) for weeks. Yet for the last 2 weeks or so it's been reversed for the most part. But worse, I may go all week without picking up either! I rarely play for more than even 1/2 an hour a day (at one time or summarily), if at all. I have the worst discipline and practice regimen ever. Though, I'm starting to pick it up more often. Overall, there isn't any method to my madness. I've since gotten Moderato down much smoother and at the same time slightly quicker, and have considered re-recording it but haven't cared enough to yet. Maybe I'll give it a try tomorrow if the football games suck. Thanks for the listen and comments.

Hey man, I am curious, what do you use to record? I am starting to look around for something to record with (with the express idea of listening back what I'm trying to do and retching...) and know nothing about the equipment. The sound you have on these pieces is terrific. Very clean.
Thanks

My nylon Ibanez has an on-board piezo, so out from there it goes into my Line 6 PodXT (for compression, chorus, reverb, and headphones) which goes right into my pc via USB cable. That's what I use, which is still really simple, but you could go even more bare bones if you wanted. If your acoustic doesn't have a pup, you'll either have to mic it (which records more natural sound anyway if done correctly...just takes more effort ), or get a slide-in soundhole pup for 40-80 bucks. After that essentially all you need is some kind of interface to get it to the computer. Some small mixers may have a USB out, some effects processors have USB like the Pod, or just a single purpose line in interface like an external soundcard or such. I'm not all that knowledgeable either. Take a peek at the "OK, so who uses what?" thread in Recording, and maybe ask those guys too. They'd know more than me.
