Since, I know we've got quite a few "gear collectors" on the forum, I thought I would start up a thread for anybody who wants to sign up and become a member of the AGCWBLOGTTDRNBDAA. If there's anyone who doesn't know what AGCWBLOGTTDRNBDAA stands for, here you go: Avid Gear Collectors Who Buy Lots Of Gear That They Don't Really Need But Do Anyway Anonymous. It's kind of like an AA for those of us who have GAS. Feel free to join the group and introduce yourself.

Hello, my name is Eric a.k.a. PRSplaya, and I have severe GAS. I started piddling around with the guitar when I was about 14 or so, but didn't get GAS until I was 18, which was when I got my first electric guitar. Now, 9 years later, I have spent enough money on gear to be able to support my whole family for well over a year. This is not something that I am proud of, seeing as how my GAS has severely hindered my growth as a guitarist, but at least I've got good tone while I'm sucking ;D

Hello, my name is Sean, aka, Akira, and I have GAS. The first signs imerged when I first picked up a guitar at 14. My biggest GAS moment was probably spending most of my first degree loan payment on an amp.
I don't regret it.

Hello. My name is David, and I have GAS. It was all about Tone Quest, dy'see? Seeking out truly willing guitars, and highly responsive amps. Getting distracted by the arguments over whether the guitar or the amp contributes more to your tone. Trying, and discarding, dozens of perfectly ordinary bits of gear along the way, littering my trail with the cast-offs, always convinced that the next acquisition would be the one missing thing that revealed all to me. I realised the extent of my condition when I started compiling a list of my arsenal for the "Weapons of Choice" thread.... ... I am indeed a sick, sick, man.... ... And I wouldn't have it any other way. Mwahahahahaahaaaa....

Hi, my name is Roel and I have GAS. I have the illusion I can withstand the awesomeness of gear presented by stores and manufacturers. To simply touch the essence, the hardware... I've gotta have it, gotta have more, always more, better, better... better gear makes me play better, or so I think, so I buy better, not many different gear, only better, to the point where I can't buy food or pay my collegemoney, so I loan money, more money and I think 'after my study things will calm down...'
but no, I admit I have GAS and it will never go away, I must have better, there's always better..

Hi, my name is Craig and i'm a GASoholic it started when i bought my first guitar, it came with a free amp which sounded awful, this led me to suffer from severe depression which in turn led me to the pwn mags, in particular Total Guitar which reviewed and cajolled me into buying the Danelectro Fab Overdrive 'it's the closest we've heard to real valve simulation in a pedal' they said, at £15 (i'm poor ok!) i bought it, surely it would answer my prayers? alas no, a stream of pedals and amps has since come and gone like the sands of time, i now have 'my tone' i should be happy, but no, deep phsycological scars remain, i'm GASing over a Wah a Delay and a phaser! so please, i beg, which should i get???

Hi everyone, my name is ren... and I have severe GAS. I thought I could beat it on my own, then I thought I needed help, and now I'll settle for the comfort of knowing others are just like me... I have an irrational compulsion to buy 80's or 80's inspired pink & pointy (figuratively speaking) guitars... especially Ibanez - RGs, JEMs, JPMs, Radius/JSs etc... and the worst thing is, I don't even feel embarassed being seen in public with them. I spend my weekend searching ebay on the off chance that someone is selling an '88 RG in fizzbomb orange with green pickup covers, pink controls and blue sharktooth inlays... I also have more traditional axes, but they don't do it for me the same way. I managed to put the brakes on £3500 for the new 20th Anniversary JEM... but I still love the way it looks. I know it's wrong... but I don't want to be right... and I'm not even sorry ;D

Oh, I forgot to mention the time I spent a grand on an '88 Jackson Soloist, listed on ebay in America.
I thankfully came to my senses the next morning.
Didn't even get any negative feedback!

Well, the thing is.... nobody that we know of has ever beaten GAS . Some say that once you find "your sound", then GAS will stop. Based on my own personal experience, finding "your sound" will only slow down the GAS process. No matter how much you like your tone, someone with GAS will always be keeping their eyes open for the next best thing (doesn't have to necessarily be something new) that will help them obtain that last missing 5% of pure tonal bliss.
