So where do you do your picking/strumming? i got to thinking about this recently because i play primarily Strats and i know alot of folk find the control layout obstructive, for me it's no problem as i always pick/strum close to the neck; i prefer the warmer sound, how bout you?

I kinda go all over the place. My electric Parker can give me a really clean sound, though I like strumming Maj7's and stuff right on the neck itself, becuase it gives it even more definition, apart from that, I jump from place to place.

I kinda take into consideration which pickups I'm using. If I'm using the bridge, I tend to pick closer to the bridge. Neck pickups, closer to the neck. I don't always follow this rule, but more often than not, when I'm just doing it how I do it, this seems to be how it ends up.

I typically pick closer to the bridge than the neck. Basically wherever the pick hits the strings with my palm over the bridge. I prefer the brighter more defined tone that it produces, over picking in the neck position. I find that, with my guitar, things can get a little muddy when picking too close to the neck.

I move around too...but mostly I pick around the bridge pickup, usually on the neck side of it. That's b/c I rest my pinky on the bottom edge of the bridge pickup most of the time...

I just try to stay in the middle, you get a good balance of tone that way. Or what I do sometimes is strum kind of slanted, so the lower notes are closer to the neck and the higher notes are closer to the bridge.

I typically pick somewhere over the neck pup, because I try to avoid putting any pressure on the floating trem, plus the tone is pretty nifty.

Yep, I move around too. The bridge area I like especially for chorus soaked chord rakes, while closer to the neck yields fat tone for individual notes/arpeggios, along with zones for unique pinch harmonics.
Though the majority of the time I'm right in the middle on both acoustic and electric. Yes my friends, my recordings I've posted lately have all been classical studies and whatnot, but I do still jam out with my SG.

You know, I actually paid attention to where I pick recently......I said I pick closer to the neck side of the bridge pup, but with the way I anchor my pinky on the bottom of the brige pup, most of my picking falls dead in the center between the pickups....
One of those things you do everyday but don't pay attention to..

One of those things you do everyday but don't pay attention to.. Yeah, I had to actually pick up my guitar and look where I was picking in order to answer this thread, I guess it's just so automatic.
