I don't know... just when I think of all the people that fought for our freedom... I think its disrespectful to them - when people choose not to vote. If they knew how many people really don't care who runs their country, would they have bothered to fight for it in the first place? Yeah, but the thing is, there's no real difference between candidates in a lot of cases. I mean sure, if I had strong feelings against or for a candidate, I would vote (and I probably will anyway). But I think in a lot of cases you could vote any way and wind up with almost identical results.

The problem when it comes for me voting is, well, who do I trust? I'm not going to vote just because I feel I have to. I will vote for the party / person I think will do the least damage ! I will even vote for someone I don't like in order to stop some one I hate getting into power. So folks, Im with iiHolly, yep it is a crappy system but remember Hitler was voted into power on the back of a democracy ! So quit wining and go find out about stuff then make an informed choice and encourage others to do the same. If more people had taken responsibility for looking after there own political process the USA might have avoided the utter disaster that has been the Bush and Chaney show. The number of times I heard people blindly saying they were voting republican because that was what the president wanted made me want to puke !

I'll be missing this year's general election by 2-4 weeks, as for my birthday being in early December, and I will then be 18 years old. But it doesnt really matter anyway, becuase between a lack of health care and all my other dislikes of the campaigns of the running candidates, I really dont see any point why I would want to vote.
Whatever, the next 4 and half years will go by faster than I'll want them to anyway, so what's it really matter?

The problem when it comes for me voting is, well, who do I trust? I'm not going to vote just because I feel I have to. I've yet to find a politician who can be trusted! I don't know... just when I think of all the people that fought for our freedom... I think its disrespectful to them - when people choose not to vote. If they knew how many people really don't care who runs their country, would they have bothered to fight for it in the first place? I see where you coming from Tonja but most of the people who fought for our freedom didn't have a choice, they were forced to do so by governments who didn't give a damn about them, wartime conscription yes? fight or go to prison! they didn't necessarily want to fight, most of those who fought have since felt more disrepect from subsequent governments than from the the voters or lack of. People do care who runs their country but all too often there is little to no difference between the political parties, in the UK there are only 3 viable parties to vote for (the rest of them won't garner enough voters to fill the church hall between them) none of these parties at present are offering anything of benefit to me or the country, so i basically have 2 choices: i either do like the doc and vote in one bunch of idiots to keep another bunch of idiots out, or, i don't vote, either way i'm screwed! i care who runs my country, i just don't have anyone to vote for who's cabable of running it.

I believe our political system here in Canada is the same as the UK. No matter who is in office, we are pretty much at the mercy of the relationship with the US.
I don't think "not voting" is the answer though.

I'd probably be alright with forking out some more taxes for people who are under 18 to get health care, but beyond that... get your own insurance. We already have to pay for a bunch of people to free load off of Welfare and Medicaid and all sorts of government programs (and if you don't believe people do this take a little trip to West Virginia). A family was trying to rent my parents house and the government was going to pay for them to rent it, I'm not sure what this program is called but they had 3 adults who were able to work. My mom's friend is trying to get disability, I'm not sure what her reasoning for this other then the lady is a bit of a nut and whore. I'd rather my tax money be spent on transportation, education, social security then paying some dead beat 33 year old to get health care.
