Van Halen to Tour With Roth, Report Says By Associated Press 1 hour ago
LOS ANGELES - Van Halen fans, get ready to "Jump." The rockers have re-formed with original frontman David Lee Roth and will set out on a national tour beginning in October, according to a report posted Wednesday on Billboard Magazine's Web site.
In its report, the music industry trade publication said Van Halen will play 50 dates in arenas across North America.
The report coincides with a news release issued Tuesday by touring company Live Nation and Van Halen saying the band will be making "an announcement of monumental proportions" during a news conference Monday in Los Angeles.
Representatives of the band and Live Nation would not confirm the band will announce a reunion tour.
Reports surfaced this year that three of the band's original members _ Roth, guitarist Eddie Van Halen and drummer Alex Van Halen _ would tour along with Eddie Van Halen's son, Wolfgang, in place of original bassist Michael Anthony. That tour never materialized.
In March, Eddie Van Halen entered rehab for unspecified reasons. Later that month, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Roth left the group for a solo career after the release of the band's "1984" album, which featured the hits "Jump," "Hot For Teacher" and "Panama."
The band carried on into the 1990s with new lead singer Sammy Hagar. Later, former Extreme frontman Gary Cherone joined the band for one album.
Van Halen hasn't toured with Roth in more than 20 years.

I just heard about the "Announcement of Monumental Proportions" scheduled for Monday on the radio... I'm hopeful, but something in my gut is saying... don't hold your breath - believe it when you see it...

This will be amazing if it actually happens, but I'm not holding my breath... They're kinda like the boy who cried wolf a few too many times Whether it happens or not, I'll always be a huge Van Halen fan.

I put money on them not completing the tour if they even tour to begin with. I'm also betting ticket prices will be ridiculous.

I think it will happen...Ed is sober now and looks 20 years younger...I saw Roth at the county fair here 2 years ago and he was great!!! He did all the good old VH songs...he rocked "ice cream man"...played the accoustic bit great...still doing the kicks as well...used a Jack Daniels bottle in a "rude" way and splattered the women in the front row....(he told the crowd that he got a warning that it was a child friendly venue and pretty much ignored them ) pure RnR

Would be cool if they had the full original line up, i.e. inc. Michael Anthony. Doesn't matter for me anyway, seems there's no plans to come to England.

Ok, I'm going to go cry now, because I won't be able to go see them ... then I'm going to go play my guitar, because watching/listening to VH always gets me pumped up ;D On a side note... does anybody know when Eddie first started using a wah (not ever, just on an album)? I had never heard it on a record until I heard it on one of the 3 new tracks they did with Sammy Hagar for one of the double disk greatest hits albums. I've also seen him use it live a time or two, but only that once on an album. Was that the first time, or has he used it on other albums?

Sad to say, I'm not going. I'm saving up for -actually, I have the money now- for a Boss GT-6/8, and paying for that ticket would make it really hard for me to buy one.

Bummer. I have not seen their tour schedule yet but if they are anywhere near Pittsburgh, I will try to get there. That's one of those shows you just "gotta see". I've seen a lot of the classic bands but VH is one that I have always missed out on for one reason or another. And I refused to see them with Sammy Hagar. It's not VH without Roth.

Unlike me, though, you would have appreciated seeing them 11,000 times more than me. I suppose that evens things out.

this is true... I hope you didn't take that the wrong way. I was just messing with you since you chose to go for the piece of gear that you can get anytime, over a chance (possibly once in a lifetime) to go see Van Halen.

I really hope that the Boss (GT) is awful and totally not worth giving up a chance to see VH for.

I just responded with playful banter. All is well. I really hope that the Boss (GT) is awful and totally not worth giving up a chance to see VH for. I've found one going for 60 bucks, Which is A LOT cheaper than I thought, so there's still the chance.

Yay, Van Halen's in town. They are playing at the verizon center over in DC; A good freind of mine will be there, and sadly I will not, though I never really listened to them much.
