I thought my first band joining would be a monumental event of biblical like proportions but sometimes life sneaks up on ya.
As some of you may know, I'm an Alice in Chains fanatic. Actually I'm a 90’s rock fanatic, just AIC is my fav of those. I'm specifically infatuated with their MTV Unplugged performance and as such, have spent most of my guitar playing life (2.5 years for anyone keeping score at home) trying to emulate their performance that night.
I have a few other guitar playing buddies that I've been trying to coerce into playing with me at parties and such, but have had limited success in actually practicing beforehand. We have many sing-a-long nights and have a lot of fun, but we’ve never actually sat down, worked on a set list and practiced.
Recently my buddy called me up and said “Do you still want to get together and work on an AIC Unplugged type thing?” The next night we were sitting in his music room wailing away. I was super excited because, well, dammit, we sounded pretty good for the first time playing together. We picked out 7 songs, figured out who was playing/singing each part and did a couple attempts of each. I left thinking “man, that was a lot of fun”.
Last night, I went back over for round two and my friend was so excited about Tuesday night’s practice, he had talked to some of his old bandmates about playing bass and drums for us and now… we’re getting the whole crew together tomorrow.
Am I really the lead singer for an AIC tribute band?? What the hell’s going on here? Do I have to get divorced now and pick up an H habit? I’m so confused!
Kidding of course, just wanted to share my excitement/nervousness with you guys.
