I have a question for all who wish to respond:
I'm heading to Hawaii next Tuesday for just over two weeks. We're going to be doing a lot of island hopping and I'm wondering whether or not I should be bringing my baby... my acoustic. I play it, on average, an hour a night, if not more, but I really do treasure it. It's rare, expensive and what I consider to be my first "real" guitar.
Common sense tells me to leave it and I wish I hadn't just sold my "beater" Taylor, because it would have been a no-brainer.
I'm already bringing my surfboard so I probably could use the extra luggage anyway, it'd suck dragging a surfboard and a guitar hard shell along with my luggage...
I just don't want to be without my guitar for 17 days!! I'm going to be right on the beach 15 out of 17 days and would love to sit outside and strum while watching the sunset or sunrise.
I guess another option would be to find a guitar in Hawaii in a pawn shop and just use it while I'm there. If it's worth anything I could pay the extra $50 for additional luggage.
Whaddya think?

alright... done. Not bringing it. Hopefully I'll find a gem while I'm over there and it'll give me an excuse to buy yet another guitar.

Well, that didn't take long. I got here on Tuesday... bought a guitar off craigslist yesterday. As I'm still pretty much on east coast time, I woke up at 5:30am this morning, grabbed the new axe and hit the beach. Man was it nice to sit out there and play as the sun came up. Me happy, maholo for the advice!

Ha, yeah, I suppose that wasn't the right thing to do... Well, I picked up a Washburn D15s acoustic. I've never been a fan of Washburn, but it fit the bill. The bill being: 1. Cheap and disposable if need be. 2. Decent Craigslist is your friend. I found a guy who was moving back to the mainland, had this guitar, never played it and needed money. It was given to him as a gift, I got it for $120 cash. Still had the plastic wrap on the pickguard. It's basically been sitting in a case for 7 years. It surprisingly plays great! Sounds good, looks great and the action is nice and low without any fret buzz. In doing research, I found that the guitar was only made for two years. Here's one of the only things I was able to find out about it. www.accessguitar.com/inventory/washburn/acoustic/d15s.html

That's a good looking guitar! I've played a Washburn or two, and they've always played very nice, and sounded nice as well. Just goes to show that you don't have to spend big bucks to get a good guitar.

Thanks Akira, hell yeah, I've been enjoying it! We got here on Wednesday and so far I've been able to surf almost every day. I'm having a blast so far. Thanks for the well wishes and I'll post pics when I get back to the mainland.
