Yep, experienced an earthqueake today. I was in Music Theory AP when a bit of a tremor went through the ground, which in the very best way i could describe felt like jelly, it really did. I havent learned much about it, and I dont think there was any particular harm or damage, but it was a very very weird occurence; I hadnt exactly ever thought about being in an earthquake before. My first, crudest thought was something like "Oh god, we are being bombed by terrorists!", but this ill illusion was shortly dismissed. There was nothing more than a quick shake that probably lasted for 2 seconds, and a loud rumble, and then it was gone.Weird though. I'm sure it was nothing compared to what Sean experienced, but now I have something else to tell my grandkids apart from giving them a histroy lesson and personal account of 9/11. I also think it's very interesting to actually have lived through a historical event such as that, becuase I've only ever read about other people who have. Three cheers for history.

Sorry about scaring you like that Bro....The chili I ate last night hit this morning.....
In all seriousness though, I've never experienced an earthquake, although they do say that we have small ones here that can occasionally be felt. It's gotta be a weird feeling....

Sorry about scaring you like that Bro....The chili I ate last night hit this morning..... LMAO!!!! The train used to run right behind my old house, so I know what small tremors feel like, but not the real deal. I'm sure it would scare the crap out of me though. Glad you're alright!

Thanks, Eric. I saw on a local report that it was calculated to be a 1.8, a relatively small thing. I didnt hear of any damage. Just another day out here in Nowheresville.

Virginia is the official home of national disaster oddities lately with the tornadoes and now random earthshakers. I haven't experienced anything out of the ordinary lately, but maybe nature is taking numbers and I'll be moved to forefront for complaining about the normalities of my weather experience Its been raining like mad lately so we've had many a flood watch, 100s of back roads flooded, and other things that lots of liquid cause. After having years of "drought" the news has switched to an excess amount of rainy stories. I wish people would just realize that sometimes it rains a lot, sometimes not so much and that neither is going to really change our biome permanently. Mother nature has her own plans despite our society's over analyzation and tracking of weather by the mass media. Watching or reading the news and the SAME stories over and over and over again makes me want to yarf. I wish I could write a letter to one large entity of newswriting that would have an impact... or anything I said or though had an impact. From watching the news here area just a few things I dont' want to hear about: 1) Unless there are a mass of people killed... like 200 I don't really care or want to hear about it. 2) An epidemic is not an epidemic until it has spread to atleast 100 or more people. I don't care if 3 people contracted some weird disease (ie west nile virus). 3) I know the economy sucks and gas prices are going up. There is no need to inform me everyday by the hour of this. 4) Americans are more fat and more stupid then EVERYONE else, I need no additional statistic to support this fact. Evidence to the contrary isn't needed either. 5) Dialects should be allowed. Pretty soon every american is going to sound exactally the same. 6) Stop taking what people (namely politicians) say out of context, and then blowing up to be this massive story. People say stupid things all the time, I saw stupid things all the time. Politicians, and others, should be granted that right as well. 7) Stop exploiting death and negativity in general.
I could list 10 but I'd rather leave it at the more original 7. My point is that I'd really like to see a tornado or feel an earthquake as long as I don't die. If I do die... it would be pretty cool to be blown to death.

In regards to flooding and natural events of the likes; Around here it rains heavily and extensivly, it being the time of year it is. I'm always witnessing floodwatches on the tele, yet I've yet to be concerned with any so far. Same with tornadoes. I'm going to assume that tornadoe warnings are more oriented to the surrounding counties from where I live, as my town has many, many hills and contours, which I assume would be a bit of a turnoff to usual down to earth tornadoes; They also make for incredible hills to skate and louge down.
And a wierd thing is that a relative of mine's apartment was flooded by the recent downpour we just got, yet she lives on the SEVENTH floor. They say it seeped in from the sides, which must be a complete pain in the arse as they just spent several hundred thousand dollars (I'm guessing) on new siding for that building just last summer. I now live in a two story townhouse, so I think I'm pretty much safe... Oddly.

One of the guys I work with was/is over there on business. He was due to go to Chengdu on Monday, however the plans were changed. He said if his schedule had not been changed - his plane would have been landing just as the earthquake hit.
He's ok, he's in Guangzhou right now - but all of his plans have been screwed up, and he's not sure how much flights will be messed up and for how long.
His blackberry still works..
Scary stuff...
