In 2005, Ampeg, and its parent company, St. Louis Music (also makers of Crate amps) were purchased by Loud Technologies (LTEC on the NYX). In March 2007, Loud ceased production of Ampeg and Crate at the manufacturing facility in Yellville, AR, outsourcing the manufacture of Ampeg and Crate to contract manufacturers in Asia. In May, 2007, Loud closed and sold the plant in Yellville, AR and also closed the Ampeg and Crate engineering department in St. Louis, MO, preferring to have new models designed by their own engineers, as well as an Asian engineering group. These moves have been strongly questioned 'on the streets', as it has raised concerns about the overall quality, especially among Ampeg users. A major selling point for Ampeg in the past was that it was designed and made in America. on a side note....another reason GT is sucking--- www.guitartricks.com/forum/showthread.php?p=214705#post214705

That bro, is exactly the same as is happening with Vox, most of them are now manufactured on the cheap in China and as a result quality is suffering, they still make some great amps, but they're not what they once were, British sounding British built, many players are complaining of poor build quality and reliability, even AC30 and AC15 custom classics are being built abroad! and ya gotta pay a whole lot more cash if you want a hand wired British built version On a side note, good to see the mods are keepin it real over there

Goods that are built upon national pride, (i.e. stratmans Vox example) should be built in their respective country.
It's saddening to see some companies compromising quality to gain a few extra £££'s
Oh, and regarding that other forum...
...long live GP!

This nonsense started back in the late Seventies with the Steel industry. I know, I lost my job in the mill because of outsourcing. Sent my hometown into a economic spiral that we have not quite recovered from. It'll continue. In America, one thing rules above all else; cash. Plain and simple. Remove the rhetoric that some people spew about the good ol' US and you'll see it for what it is. Money. Plain and simple.
As far as the other forum, since you guys all left, what they have primarily are a bunch of newbies without the expierenced folks there to answer questions. I don't really know what happened there but that's between you all and them. What I would wish though is that hurt feelings could get put aside and we could get back to what we had once. I miss the sense of community.
Ah well, I've never really been one to belong to clubs anyway.

When someone asks about a good place for lessons, I still recommend GT. But as far as I'm concerned.. it just wasn't applying anything to the forum. Jon wants the site geared towards newbies taking lessons, and unfortunately that is what he has now. And we have a great forum here now, with less of the restriction we had over there.... So Hunter, relax and just enjoy the best of both worlds.

GT started going to hell long before we all left (not all of us have fully left either). Jon doesn't give two shits about the forum community. As far as he's concerned, it's just a monkey that's pouncing on his back, because the forum doesn't make him any money. All guitartricks cares about is, hosting some of the best lessons on the net, and making money off those lessons so they can keep everybody paid. If anybody has a problem, or a question, about/with one of the lessons, or anything dealing with the guitar, they have more than enough instructors that are being paid to answer those questions via e-mail. If you have a question about anything not dealing with a specific lesson on G.T., then by all means post it here. Any one of us will be more than happy to help you out with whatever it is.
All forums grow, evolve, and die (not in that exact order), and G.T. is no different. It's forum was great at one point in time, but it has evolved into something else, and as far as I'm concerned, it is dead. This is my home now, and I will NOT be going back to GT... ever.

I wasn't trying to start any crap over this, just trying to make a point. I don't know what anyones motivations are regarding the other site. My point was that I just missed the way things used to be, that's all.
For whatever reason, probably my own insecurities, but I feel that I no longer 'fit' anywhere. It's weird but that's the truth.
Again, I'm not trying to stir up anything. Just speaking my piece.
I'm under an incredible amount of stress right now so my mind isn't where is should be.

The way I see it: GT was good, GT got bad, GP was made, GP is good, GP is my new online home. I prefer the fact that we have 40 or so regularish members rather than half a million with only 4 people posting. So all is well.

I hear you all. Thanks. I appreciate it.
Talk about a weird day; I had a guy trying to find my home address so he could send a "few of his union boys over to 'take care of me'. I work in insurance and now I've got some guy threatning to hurt me (or worse) over a claim? Jeez.
I need a drink.

Thanks for the kind words and concern. I am, in fact, still alive! Quiet night last night and no word from this dude today. But I have learned a few things; first off, he is apparently a junior mobster of some sort, has threatened to crush the skull of a guy with a chunk of concrete, has threatened to throw a guy from a roof and has pulled a knife on another guy.
Jeez. Think this guy has some issues? "Mommy liked my brother better so now I'm going to be an asshole..."
My employer wanted me to leave town for a while but I nixed that idea. Hunter's no punk. I don't run. Secondly, I think he's just blowing hot air and third, if we play into these sorts of threats it just gives every other two bit Tony Soprano wannabe an excuse to puff up his chest and started making demands. Not going to happen.
So, that's that.
However, if you don't hear from me for a while, check out the Pittsburgh Post Gazette and see if there's anything there! (Kidding....kidding...It'll be cool)
Thanks again.
