haha i did get plastered last night... it was groovycakes...ive also been thinking of painting my guitar...the reason is because ive run out of things to paint on and im broke..and since i broke a string..i thought id try it...but i am hesitant...will there be any significant changes to tonality and stuff like that if i paint on it? im talking abt acrylic paints...
damn high E string... this is the second time its happened to me...on the same set of strings...i used my old yamaha spare...now ive got none and cant be bothered going out at all cos of lack of funds...

Either I'm lucky or have a light hand...It's been years since I've popped a string.

I can't see there being any tonal changes just by painting it. I'd go for it, I like your paintings a lot. That would be a kickass guitar.

Either I'm lucky or have a light hand...It's been years since I've popped a string. Same here. I truthfully don't even remember the last time I broke one. Though I did have a nylon string come untied from the bridge in the course of a road trip, but that's prolly on me anyway. Oh no wait, now I remember...the last (steel) string I broke was on my 12...the skinny G of course.

If I play with anything lighter than 10's, it's guaranteed that I will break a string or two. I play with a very heavy picking hand.

I would plan the painting before you did it, for serious. You don't want a manly edie on your gutiar riiiiiiiiiiiiight? I want one on mine though. You should start a shop and put your paintings on guitars that shiet be tight. What a fun career!

I usually play really softly compared to others; I haven't broken a string in a while, touch wood...

There's been too many double meaning on here of late. Josh, you sure there isn't something catching on the string at the nut or bridge which is weakening the string when you alter the tuning?

If it's a bur or something on your nut or bridge, you won't always be able to see it... you can usually feel it though. It doesn't really take much to weaken a string at either of those places. I had a similar problem with the G string on my acoustic. It usually happened after it had been tuned up to an A or something. It would usually happen either while I was playing, or when I would re-tune it (up or down). It always broke right at the bridge. So, I took some super fine sandpaper (500 grit or higher) and lightly smoothed out the bridge a little where the string rested on it (being very careful not to go overboard). I also switched to Elixer strings. Not sure which helped more, smoothing out the bridge or the new strings, but it doesn't happen anymore. At least not with the frequency that it once did. I think at one point, I had about 5 packs of strings that were missing the G string
