So I put some new strings on my Jackson, and normally after stringing it up there starts a seemingly endless process of diving the trem, then tuning up, then diving the trem, tuning up, until everything is balanced and it holds its tune. This time, I put the strings on, tuned up, dived the trem once, and it was fine. I wish it was like that every time I restrung it. Also the action seems to have come down a little bit and the intonation is bang on to boot. Woo hoo! Hopefully it'll hold...

Do you stretch the strings away from the body of the guitar when you put new strings on? I find if I give the strings a few good pulls and stretch them out good when I put them on I get to the sweet spot pretty quick. I might have to tune one or 2 times after I start playing the first day but then it stays in tune and the new strings sing. I don't have a floyd however so that's a bit of a different animal from what I hear.

Just one more reason for me to like my fixed bridges

Yup, I do stretch them out.
I bet the next time I put new strings on it'll be an absolute nightmare, just to restore karma.
Either that or my floyd will die tomorrow.

I never have to intonate my strat anymore. I use the same gauge of strings every time, and so it always stays perfectly intonificated. I love it.

I play mostly with my Schecter (tom bridge), but its nice to be able to put on some Slayer or Pantera and be able to go crazy with the whammy. I usually tune up, stretch, tune up, stretch twice, then tune up again and it usually holds. I'll have to try the diving and retuning, I know I usually have to tune up the next day after I give it a good abuse. All the strings are in tune with each other, just a little below Eb pitch (what I have mine set to.)
