My setup
Mackie 16 channel board running into the PC w/Maudio 1010LT card.
Sonar 5 (I have 6 but there are some things I need to work out).
Reason 3.0
I use a little proggy called Roni's Amazing slowdowner to learn songs. It keeps the pitch but allows you to slow an mp3 down speed it up, shift pitches to match your tuning. Loop. For the price (< $50) it a very nice tool.
Yamaha keyboard into the 1010LT midi port to control the reason synths.
3 shure sm57 and 1 beta 58

minus the guitars, amps, and preamps (guitar preamps, not mic preamps), my recording rig goes as follows... Yamaha MG 12/4 mixer ---> PreSonus FireBox external soundcard ---> to computer via firewire ---> Sonar 6 PE with a dookie load of plug-ins To record guitar, I normally run my guitar through my pedalboard (only using wah, EQ, volume pedal, flanger, and OD pedals) into a Peavey Rock Master guitar tube preamp ---> Line 6 PODxt for cabinet and mic sims ---> Digitech DEQ2496 digital EQ ---> Channels 1 & 2 on the mixer. That lets me EQ the two channels differently to get a really thick sound, and also lets me have stereo recording and playback when using stereo effects from the PODxt (just for jamming, not recording). To record bass, I do the same thing, only without the Rock Master. I've got the bass expansion pack on the PODxt. For recording a live amp, acoustic guitar, or vocals, I keep an MXL LDC mic plugged into channel 3 and an SM57 into channel 4. I've also got a PreSonus Comp16 compressor that I sometimes use when mic'ing stuff. For monitoring, I use a pair of M-Audio BX8 powered studio monitors, and for tracking (unless it's recorded direct) I use a set of Sennheiser HD 280 Pro headphones. This setup allows me to record up to 4 separate tracks at one time. I could easily mic a whole 4-6 piece band at once, but everybody wouldn't be on separate tracks. I use a Yamaha MG12/4 mixer (same as Eric's) into my soundcard (Creative Audigy 2ZS) and then into my DAW; Logic Audio Platinum 5.5, with a whole ass load of plug-ins. For recording guitar, I use an SM57, into my mixer. For recording bass, I play through a rack mount unit, the ART SGX Nightbass, which then goes in to my mixer. For drums, I use a plug-in called Battery 3, and for other sounds (synths, pianos, strings, etc) I use a plug-in called Korg M1. I use a Korg K49 midi keyboard for playing in parts. For monitoring whilst recording, I use a set of Sennheiser HD280-Pro headphones (also like Eric). That's it, simple but does the job.

Whatever I'm playing -> Boss Micro BR.
Seriously, that thing has amazing quality for something only like 2x the size of my wallet. I still think "Small-town beat" sounds like it was recorded in some professional studio.

Yamaha MD4 digital 4 track which I'm actually using as a mixer to get my signal into my computer....
M-Audio Audiophile 2496 soundcard
Sonar
Pro-Audio 9 (before I got Sonar)
Samson Resolv 40a active studio monitors
Drag & Drop Drummer
Line 6 Pod Pro (the original one, rack mounted)
Yamaha reverb unit (rack)
2 Shure 57's
2 Shure 58's
Peavey mic (don't know the model)
Fruityloops (just use it to get weird synth sounds)
Damn, I know I have more, just can't think right now....

I've only just managed to figure it all out just tonight, though my current set up is...
A Fostex Mx-16 16 track to Sony's ACID Music Studio 6.0 (for drum/bass tracks mostly, though I sometimes use the octave pedals on my Boss GT-6 to replicate a bass sound.)
