Here's an amazing article covering recording guitar amps. If you're wondering about the references to the "main article" on that page, it's because it's taken from a larger article available in the Sound On Sound magazine August edition. I know this magazine is available in the U.K., not sure about everywhere else. But if you can, pick up the magazine itself, it makes a good read! But anyway, here's the link: Guitar Amp Recording ArticleIt's complete with audio clips and is very comprehensive, enjoy!

Those are the ones I have (the HD280Pro's), and they're great! They're the only ones I have experience with, so I can't compare them to anything. When music is being played through them, you can't hear a damn thing other than what's coming through the cans. When nothing is being played through them, you can hear what's going on around you, but it's very muffled. It definitely helps when finding the right mic placement. However, they could be better at isolating all the outside noises from your hearing. They do good enough though.
